  • Great church. Has several service times, lots of activities for youth. Free dinners on certain nights. Concerned about community and active in it to make a change.

Almost a year ago, I was looking for another church to attend, and this one was having a play that was open to the public, so I attended. Not one person spoke to me, or acknowledged I was even there. I wanted to be fair, so I attended services the following Sunday. I arrived when the first service still had 15 minutes to go, so I waited, standing in the middle of the lobby. When the service let out, as had happened at the play, not one person acknowledged me or even looked at me on their way out the door.

One more try----I attended the second service, sitting in a chair right next to the door. Many looked at me, but none greeted me. Afterwards I stood in the middle of the lobby with the parishioners visiting, talking and having a good time-and ignoring me. The minister walked within 5 feet of me, and never said a word. I was very uncomfortable, so I drifted over to a table that held some brochures, picked one up, and pretended to read it. After several minutes, a man came up beside me and said "excuse me". I turned to him, thinking someone was finally going to talk to me, but he was only trying to get his coat, which was hanging on a wall hook. I was apparently in his way. He got his coat without another word to me. I meandered back to the middle of the lobby, and stood some more until the place was about empty. Feeling embarrassed, a little angry, and dejected, I just went to my car and drove home.

I thought I was "looking" for something, because this was the first church I had ever attended besides a Kingdom Hall. If this is an example of "christendom", I guess I don't have a reason to try another church. At least a Kingdom Hall, people talk to me because they care. At Trinity Evangelical, they didn't even pretend to care.

Every time I drive past this church, I remind myself to write what happened, but never do. This time I guess I finally did it.
